Ahead of the Copa América, which will kick off on Sunday, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of all players that have not yet received a market value update within their respective leagues. Among the losers of the update is Atlanta United and Venezuela star Josef Martínez. Meanwhile, in Paraguay 17-year-old Julio Enciso, who has been nominated to the national team squad has set a new record.

Major League Soccer has sent 16 players to the Copa América this year. Seven of those players have been nominated by Venezuela. Despite dropping by €1.5 million to now $12.5 million Atlanta United star Martínez remains the second most valuable player in Venezuela's squad behind Yangel Herrera (€18m) and the third most valuable player in MLS behind Diego Rossi (€20m) and Carlos Vela (€15m).

Martínez's drop is partly due to his long-term injury in 2020. The Venezuelan forward has scored just two goals in seven games for Atlanta this season. Another factor is his long-term contract until 2023 and the 28-year-old is happy in Atlanta and unlikely to leave MLS, which makes a big transfer unlikely. Several of Josef Martínez's Venezuela teammates and league opponents also received new market values. Cristhian Cásseres Jr. from New York Red Bulls (+€1m to €3m) and José Andrés Martínez from Philadelphia Union (+€400,000 to €1m) saw their market value grow.

Talent Julio Enciso up by 587.5% - Youngest player in Paraguay squad

One young player that could write headlines at the tournament is 17-year-old Julio Enciso. The talented winger from Club Libertad is the youngest player in the Paraguay set up and his market value has grown by 587.5% from €800,000 to now €5.5 million. The highest market value for any player playing in Paraguay's Primera División since the league has been added to the Transfermarkt database.

With Argentina having received a separate league update. The only other major nation to stand out ahead of the Copa América is Uruguay. Here the talented Facundo Torres from Peñarol has gone up from €1.8 million to now €5 million.

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees. The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
