Tillman confirms US Soccer inquiry: "Not for nothing here at the U21"
Germany's U21 national team player Malik Tillman has confirmed that the US Soccer Federation (USSF) has inquired about whether he wants to play for the US men's national team. "It is true that they have contacted me," the Bayern Munich talent said at a press conference organized by the DFB.
Tillman's father is originally from the United States and the native of Nuremberg is eligible to play for the United States and has featured for the country's youth teams in the past. Tillman has played two games for the US U15 before moving to the DFB where he has played for every youth level since 2017. It is a path the 19-year-old, who has scored three goals and one assist in three games for the U21 wants to continue. "I am not for nothing at the U21," Tillman said. "I am comfortable here and will continue to be here."
Head coach Antonio Di Salvo also believes that Tillman will remain part of the Germany setup. "I had a few conversations with him," Di Salvo said last week. "He told me that he wants to play for Germany and that he identifies himself with the team. He wants to establish himself at his club and the U21 and that is important for us."
